Arlene Schulman is a writer and editor, book writer, journalist, photographer, teacher, and a longtime resident of Inwood (that's Arlene in the arms of her Nonie, Anna Attas David of Janina, Greece).
Her books include the award winning The Prizefighters: An Intimate Look at Champions and Contenders; Carmine: A Book about a Boy Living with AIDS; 23rd Precinct: The Job; and Cop on the Beat.
Her work has been featured in many publications, including The New York Times, The New York Daily News, The New York Post, and El Diario-La Prensa. She also wrote 26 episodes of a boxing series on ESPN Classic that featured Sugar Ray Leonard.
Ms. Schulman has taught writing and photography from kindergarten through college: in New York City public schools as a part of a special arts program; The New York Public Library where she has run popular workshops for teenagers; and at Hunter College’s Department of Continuing Education.
She is a member of PEN, the literary organization, and Women in Communications.
